No noodles is not Good news!!

NISSIN MILK SEAFOOD CUP NOODLE by yasoki

I am pretty adventurous when it comes to trying new foods. There are certain foods that I absolutely REFUSE to try (such as venison, certain fish, etc.), but I’m usually wide open when it comes to pasta. When given the opportunity to try Knorr-Lipton Whole Grain Pasta Sides jumped at the chance. After all, I had survived on Pasta Sides and Ramen Noodles all throughout college. I thought that the Knorr-Lipton Whole Grain Pasta Sides would bring me back to my wonderful, bygone days at The George Washington University.

I admit it: I am a pasta snob. After eating my grandmother’s lasagne, anyone would become a pasta snob. Now, I knew that this “pasta” wasn’t going to be like Gramma’s. However, I fully expected it to be edible. Unfortunately, I was expecting a little too much.

Mmm…. Cheesey Glue
After reading someone’s review about how the Whole Grain Pasta Sides didn’t come out too well in the microwave, I opted to make it on the stove top. I followed the directions to a T, adding the proper amounts of water, milk and butter. After boiling it all together, I poured in the pasta and seasoning packet and stirred occasionally. What resulted was a glue-like consistency that stuck to the bottom of the pot.

I let it sit, as directed, then served in two pasta bowls. Fortunately, I made bruschetta on a french baguette to go with the pasta.

The pasta solidified into a gluey mess almost immediately. So you get a visual, it looked like a brain. Not appetizing at all. (Just thinking about it is honestly making me gag.)

The Joy of Marriage
I told my husband that I made pasta for dinner, and to come down to eat. The look on his face spoke volumes when he sat down at the table. He looked at me dubiously and asked, “Have you tried it yet?” I told him that I was waiting for him. Truth be told, I didn’t exactly want to try it. I wanted him to be my guinea pig. Unfortunately, he was on to me. He encouraged me to try it.

Bravely, I forked some of the noodle-glue and took a bite. I wanted to retch immediately, but I didn’t let Craig know. He asked me how it was. Not wanting to lie, I simply shrugged and acted like I was going to take another bite. I’m sure Craig thought that it was edible gauged on my reaction, so he took a manly forkful and shoved it in his mouth.

His eyes bugged out like a cartoon character. He looked at me accusingly as I cackled. He spat the nastiness into a napkin and downed both of our iced teas between expletives. Needless to say, we feasted on bruschetta alone that night.

Is the sacrifice worth it?
Yes, the Knorr-Lipton Whole Grain Pasta Sides are healthier than the “regular” Pasta Sides there are fewer calories, and it is made out of whole grains. The difference is that the other Pasta Sides are actually good. They are edible— an important quality in a food item. You can tell that something isn’t right with this food item. The sacrifice of taste isn’t worth the few calories that you save.

In Conclusion…
Run away. Run far, far away. This is probably the worst “instant pasta” (for lack of a better term) that I have ever eaten— and that includes a mishap that I had in college with cheeseburger Hamburger Helper. Knorr-Lipton Whole Grain Pasta Sides will never grace my pantry again.
